We are currently looking for an experienced Asphalt Foreman to join our team, based in Yatala.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Day to day job planning and execution of works
  • Lead the asphalt crew and ensure that the works are completed within the prescribed timeframes
  • Daily reporting of materials and resources used to complete works
  • Train employees to ensure safe operations of machinery at all times
  • Active participation in preventing and correcting design and delivery issues
  • Lead and demonstrate commitment to safety, environment, and quality performance
  • Completion of job inspections, site inspection forms, daily job specific risk assessments and ensuring all pre-start checks are completed prior to work commencing
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in full and correctly and forwarded on to relevant departments in the required time frames
  • Other duties as required

The Ideal Candidate will possess the following essential skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in the asphalt/ surfacing industry
  • White Card
  • Current driver’s license
  • Proven organisational skills and a “can do” attitude
  • Exceptional time management and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Be competent in the following roles: level hand, paver operator OR MTV operator
  • Bobcat and crew truck experience highly regarded

COLAS NSW, a leader in the road construction and maintenance industry, are currently looking for  experienced Bitumen Sprayer Drivers to work within our busy NSW Rural Spray Seal crew.

The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Workshop/ Maintenance Manager to join our team in Yatala.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for the regular and planned maintenance of all COLAS QLD vehicles and plants including NHVR maintenance accreditation system and sprayer calibration.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Management of all workshop employees.
  • Ensure scheduled services on all trucks, trailers & plant are complete in line with maintenance schedule and in accordance with legislative requirements and Australian Standards.
  • Ensure compliance of all NHVAS business rules across all depots in QLD.
  • Administrator and signatory of the NHVR accreditation.
  • Record keeping for certifications, testing and measuring on bitumen Sprayer bar testing.
  • Responsible for NHVAS audits and non-conformances.
  • Providing all the relevant plant and vehicle information to all workshop staff as required whilst undertaking mechanical work.
  • Setting up and maintaining accounts with external repairers.
  • Establishing, negotiating and reviewing of workshop external supplier accounts. (tyres, batteries, lubricants etc)
  • Ensure the maintenance scheduling and fault report are completed and recorded in the maintenance software.
  • Follow up monthly expenses and revenue versus budget.

 

Skills and Experience required: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a managerial role within an organisation of significant size
  • Tertiary qualifications in Fitting and Machining or a Certificate III Automotive Mechanical Technology
  • Previous experience in the civil construction industry
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Construction White Card
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience using fleet maintenance software
  • Results driven, self-managing with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Proactive and able to identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Knowledge of WHS&E practices

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for the servicing of the Company’s plant and equipment including scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs and responding to breakdowns.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Complete scheduled services and maintenance activities in accordance with designated schedules
  • Perform routine repairs to plant and equipment
  • Conduct safety checks and complete Damage Reports
  • Repair faulty or damaged mechanical parts
  • Record repairs and faults in maintenance register as needed
  • Maintain critical spares inventory
  • Report near miss and incidents, complete investigations and implement corrective actions in a timely manner
  • Ensure safety of other employees, contractors or members of the public whilst carrying out duties
  • Participate in risk management and hazard identification processes

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Certificate III Engineering – Mechanical Trade
  • Previous experience as a Qualified Mechanic
  • Be a team player and have a “can do” attitude
  • Have proven problem solving & organisational skills
  • Be reliable and able to work unsupervised
  • Knowledge of WHS&E practices

Licenses:

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Forklift Licence – highly regarded
  • HR/HC License – highly regarded
  • Elevated Work Platform, Confined Space, working at heights and White Card – highly regarded
