We are looking to appoint an Asphalt Technician Specialist to join our Yatala Laboratory. This busy role will be responsible for running and implementing all asphalt performance-based testing. This includes Wheel Tracking, Resilient Modulus and Fatigue Beam Testing.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise research work in asphalt mixes, in relation to Asphalt Performance Testing, experiments and analyses
  • Preparing, plotting, and graphing data, performing mathematical calculations and computations of measurements
  • Supervise work in relation to internal and external mix designs for Colas Group
  • Supervise the calibration and maintenance of the equipment in use to ensure accurate and repeatable operating conditions.
  • Preparing and supervising the preparation of NATA reports and assessments
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and organisation in the laboratory is always maintained.
  • Attend field projects and trials involving Colas specialized asphalt products.
  • Assist with delivering QC & routine production testing in Asphalt, Aggregate, Bitumen & Fillers where required.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Previous company NATA Signatory in Asphalt Performance Testing is highly desirable.
    • i.e Wheel Tracking, Resilient Modulus, Fatigue to Austroads and AS Std methods
  • Cert IV or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques or degree in chemistry or engineering or 5 years’ experience within a asphalt laboratory operation
  • Previous experience working with bituminous based products
  • Good communicative and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and work through issues
  • Methodical and good record keeping skills
  • Intermediate – MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
  • Attention to detail and attitude to learn and build team environment

SAMI is currently seeking TWO Graduate Laboratory Technicians to join the team at our Camellia site. The successful candidates will provide support to the laboratory supervisors with their day to day duties and will be provided with on-the-job training in the testing of bituminous materials for product development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Testing of bituminous binders and mixtures
  • Manage the storage, retention, and disposal of samples in a responsible manner
  • Ensure the calibration of laboratory equipment is scheduled and completed on time
  • Ensure that the lab utensils and equipment are properly cleaned and stored after use
  • Ensure the integrity of lab equipment by reporting faulty equipment immediately to the Lab Supervisor
  • Preparation of test reports and assessments for lab supervisor review and sign off
  • Capture test results in lab management information system as required
  • Maintain records/documentation control for all activities to meet quality requirements and ensure continuance with all legal and safety requirements

To be considered for this role you will have good operating skills with the ability to:

  • Fully competent in the successful calculation and set up of specified spread rates
