Scott Hutchison Memorial Traineeship

Scott Hutchison was the late founder and director of Hutchison Quarries. Scott was held in high regard for his quality and performance, honesty and integrity, and a strong sense of leadership amongst his team. COLAS wishes to honour this legacy.

In speaking with his son, Ben Hutchison, he believed Scott would want to see something that supports someone local to finish school and gain exposure and experience in the quarrying industry, and who would uphold Scott’s values.

Hutchison Quarries and Warwick State High School will work in partnership to develop these key values in a young person, by providing a two-year traineeship to be awarded annually, commencing in February 2023. The school-based traineeship will be awarded to a Year 11 student following an application and selection process run by the school. Hutchison Quarries will support the student by providing employment for one day per week and will pay for the student to complete a Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations. Their traineeship may include training on simulators for earthmoving equipment, as well as visiting other COLAS and supplier sites. Further, we will be providing a bursary of $1000 over the 2-year period.

This is a great opportunity for a young person to gain valuable experience and industry exposure. This traineeship will open the student to consider employment beyond the traineeship – who knows if a future Quarry Manager may come from this program?
