COLAS is committed to reducing our carbon footprint by 46.5% by 2030*.

* Based on figures gathered in 2019 for Scope 1 & 2 emissions.

At COLAS we recognise the urgent challenge posed by climate change. As of December 2024, we have updated our target for reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions. In line with the Paris Agreement, we aim to cut emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 46.5% by 2030 compared to our 2019 baseline. Our target for indirect upstream emissions (Scope 3a) remains at 30% by 2030 compared to our 2019 baseline.

To reach this ambitious goal, we have created a detailed low-carbon strategy. This strategy includes a roadmap with 29 specific commitments. These commitments focus on six key areas.

Climate Integration

We are integrating climate considerations into our business strategy by exploring new segments focused on renewable energy offerings and enhancing employee awareness and training.

Energy Efficiency

We are working to make our asphalt plants, construction equipment, and vehicles more energy efficient. This includes monitoring energy use, using renewable energy sources, and applying low-carbon solutions. These actions help lower greenhouse gas emissions from direct energy use (Scope 1).

Low-Carbon Solutions

We are dedicated to creating and promoting low-carbon products and methods. We use bio genetic binders, recycled crumb rubber, and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). We are also replacing hydrated lime with chemical surfactants and use lower temperature asphalt mixtures.

Reliable Carbon Accounting

We are improving our carbon accounting methods. We are using a new approach that looks at important flows and costs. This helps us calculate the carbon footprint of all activities in Scopes 1, 2, and 3a.

Biodiversity Preservation

We are committed to integrating biodiversity preservation into our operations through initiatives such as ecological engineering and partnerships for tree planting.
