In a first for the Hunter region, COLAS Australia successfully produced and paved more than 2,000 tonnes of EME2 (High Modulus Asphalt) for Newcastle City Council.
EME2 is a structural asphalt designed to achieve high strength and flexibility to limit rutting and cracking under heavy traffic loadings.
Thanks to its hard binder and special mix design, it can achieve the same performance as conventional dense graded asphalt with a reduced pavement thickness by up to 25%. By using less materials, EME2 is a more cost-effective sustainable solution than using traditional dense graded asphalt
